Founded in 1902, the Peterborough Historical Society will celebrate its 110th anniversary this year, leading off with a concert by pianist Virginia Eskin on Friday, February 17th. " Come Into the Parlor" is the title for this 1902-flavored program. It opens with Ms. Eskin playing some selections from Chopin, New Hampshire's Amy Beach, and of course Edward MacDowell. There will then be a presentation and some stories about the Society – it’s founding and subsequent history. Intermission will provide an opportunity for the audience to explore the Historical Society, and enjoy socializing. The second half of the program will feature Ms. Eskin performing a concert of lively rags, novelties, and jazz, including some George Gerswhin. This type of music rarely featured in concerts in the Monadnock Region. Then, to end it all, an audience sing-along (lyric sheets provided) with songs like He'll Have to Get Out and Get Under to Fix His Automobile, The Man in the Moon, Ain’t you Coming Back to New Hampshire, Molly?, and more! Not to be missed! Guests are also invited to "dress" for the occassion in period costumes representing any decade of the 20th century.
