4th Grade Life in a 1800s Mill Town :30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. To assist with the study of local and New Hampshire history, the Historical Society has designed this program in our 1800's Phoenix Mill house and the District #8 Schoolhouse. Students begin by taking on the identity of an individual from the time period. Then there is a half-hour session in our one-room schoolhouse, where students have a taste of 19th century education. After the schoolhouse visit, the class is divided into four groups which then rotate through four activities illustrating life during the time period. Activities include a history walk along Grove Street, a visit inside the museum, hands-on quill writing and 19th century laundry, and a cooking/kitchen demonstration with sampling of simple fare. New Hampshire's Social Studies Standards addressed via this program include: Curriculum Standards: #5, 6, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 Ask about our new Jeopardy Game, created just for this program!
